About Face is the second studio solo album by Pink Floyd vocalist and guitarist David Gilmour. Released in March 1984, it was co-produced by himself and Bob Ezrin. Two tracks, "All Lovers Are Deranged" and the more radio-friendly "Love on the Air", were co-written by Gilmour and his long-time friend Pete Townshend, the main songwriter for legendary rock band The Who (Gilmour composed the music and Townshend wrote the lyrics). The remainder of the songs are credited solely to Gilmour himself. In May of the same year, fellow Floyd counterpart Roger Waters released his first official solo album The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. About Face reached number 21 in the UK and number 32 in the US and was certified gold by the RIAA.
After Dark Side we were really floundering around. I wanted to make the next album more musical, because I felt some of these tracks had been just vehicles for the words. We were working in 1974 in this horrible little rehearsal room in Kings Cross without windows, putting together what became the next two albums, `Wish You Were Here`, and `Animals`.
For me, `Wish You Were Here` was very satisfying. I`d rather listen to it than Dark Side Of The Moon. I think we achieved a better balance of music and lyrics. `Dark Side` went a bit too far the other way -- too much importance was placed on the lyrics. And sometimes the tunes were neglected.

He was asked by the members of Pink Floyd to join the band to supplement the guitar work of the increasingly erratic Syd Barrett. For a brief time, he and Syd were both members of Pink Floyd at the same time. When Barrett's mental breakdown made it impossible for him to continue with the group, Gilmour became a permanent, contributing member in time for their second album, 1968's A Saucerful of Secrets. Syd Barrett also contributed one track to A Saucerful of Secrets, his last with Pink Floyd. He departed soon after that.
David Gilmour has announced the release of Live In Gdansk in September, 2008 on Columbia Records. The album was recorded during the last concert of Gilmour`s 2006 summer tour, which was held in front of 50,000 people at the shipyards in Gdansk, Poland. The concert was the only occasion on which Gilmour performed the tour material with an orchestra, using the 40-strong string section of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zbigniew Preisner, who was responsible for On An Island album`s orchestral arrangements. Other unique features of the show included... Read More
