Peter Falk`s great-grandfather was Miksa Falk, a well-known Hungarian writer and politician. He was the editor of the liberal Hungarian newspaper, the Pester Lloyd.
In 1961, he became the first actor nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy in the same year, receiving best supporting nominations for the movie Murder, Inc. (1960) and the TV show "The Law and Mr. Jones" (1960). He followed up in 1962 by being doubly nominated again for supporting actor for the movie Pocketful of Miracles (1961) and best actor (he won) for "The Price of Tomatoes," an episode of "The Dick Powell Show" (1961).

Peter Falk has rich people`s problems -- he claims a construction company did a lousy job on his Malibu remodel and wants some serious money.
According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Falk and his wife hired Handy Andy Services to spruce up their beach pad. Falk claims, among other things, Handy Andy didn`t pack the soil properly, didn`t apply the proper paint, didn`t re-install fire sprinklers, and didn`t waterproof the house.
Peter and his wife are suing for unspecified damages.

LOS ANGELES – A judge says Peter Falk`s daughter can meet with her ailing father.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aviva K. Bobb on Monday granted Catherine Falk a 30-minute supervised meeting with her father within 30 days.
Catherine Falk`s attorney says she has not seen the former "Columbo" actor in approximately six months. She has filed to establish a conservatorship for her father, who she stated has Alzheimer`s disease. Her attorney said Monday he does not know to what degree the illness has progressed.

LOS ANGELES – Patrick McGoohan, the Emmy-winning actor who created and starred in the cult classic television show "The Prisoner," has died. He was 80.
McGoohan died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said.
