I'd rather have a baby than a mink coat.
After her modeling career ended, she opened the first legal modeling agency in France and operated for 20 years. She was a fixture in Parisian society, throwing legendary parties. After retiring, she moved back to the U.S. and worked as a specialty pastry maker and caterer.
Leigh lived in the same building as a friend of Truman Capote (who came to call her “Happy-Go-Lucky”) and some still insist she was his inspiration for Breakfast at Tiffany’s Holly Golightly. (Like “world’s first supermodel,” serving as the model for Golightly was a claim more than a few vivacious New Yorkers vied for. Although Leigh, like Golightly, had no shame over her cabal of lovers and strong affinity for cats.)
