ASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- George Lindsey, who spent nearly 30 years as the grinning Goober on "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Hee Haw," has died. Various sources reported his age at 83; his imdb.com profile lists the actor at age 76.
A news release from Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home in Nashville said Lindsay died early Sunday morning after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements were still being made.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Country star Glen Campbell will perform a rare club gig in Los Angeles on August 19, the day his new CD of rock `n` roll covers hits stores, his label said on Wednesday.
Campbell, 72, will perform at the Troubadour in West Hollywood as part of a busy promotional schedule for his Capitol Records release "Meet Glen Campbell."
