Jean Sawyer Hayes passed away Wednesday in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, where the the longtime elementary teacher will be laid to rest this weekend with a small family memorial service.
"To this day hundreds of students remember her vitality, curiosity and belief in them," ABC News chief James Goldston wrote in a memo to network staffers Thursday. "Even after retiring, Jean had deep ties in her community and was adored by her large family, her students and their families."

ABC News veteran and former correspondent Sam Donaldson is facing a drunken driving charge in Delaware.
Police in the southern coastal town of Lewes say the 78-year-old Donaldson was stopped on Dec. 1 for a traffic violation. According to TMZ, officers said he was pulled over just before 8 p.m. after he had driven onto the shoulder of the road.
Police say the officer determined Donaldson had been drinking and gave him field sobriety tests.
Donaldson was arrested and later released. An arraignment is set for Friday.

If you're an actor who lands a lead role on a TV series, you can count on a big payday. But it won't be as big as it used to be.
Network and studio executives tell TV Guide Magazine they've adopted a get-tough policy on salaries for stars of the new fall shows. While the salary for a lead has been $150,000 to $200,000 per episode in recent years, most deals for stars of new series were between $75,000 and $125,000.

There was more laughter than tears on Friday as "Good Morning America" bid farewell to the anchor who has helmed the morning news show`s desk for the past ten years.
Within the span of that decade, Diane Sawyer covered Hurricane Katrina, Mideast disruptions and interviewed Washington political figures including first lady Nancy Reagan and President George H.W. Bush.
Sawyer is leaving "Good Morning America" to anchor "World News Tonight" beginning December 21. Charles Gibson retired from the position.
